Frequently Asked Questions
What is German silver?
Although not real silver, German silver is cheaper than sterling silver, but better than silver plated because it can be polished if it tarnishes. Also, since the silver is not a plate the color remains silver and will never wear off. Many jewelry pieces are made with German silver which looks and feels like plated silver.
What is the difference between sterling silver and fine silver?
Fine silver is pure silver (0.999 or 99.9% pure). Sterling silver is 92.5% silver, to which is added other metals, primarily copper, as alloys. These other metals make the sterling harder than fine silver. Fine silver tarnishes a lot slower than sterling silver.
